League Change to NCYFL

GPYFA move from NSJFL to NCYFL

As you may have seen our announcement, GPYFA will move from North Sound Junior Football League (NSJFL) to North Cascade Youth Football League (NCYFL) for the 2024 season. This decision was made by the GPYFA Board after several discussions, and we believe the move is in the best interest of our players and families. As we depart NSJFL, we wish their teams a great 2024 season and continued success.

Some advantages we'd like to highlight as we join NCYFL:

  • Moving from grade-based to age-based teams, with weight limits. This should help ensure player safety. See FAQ below for more info about weight limits.
  • More opportunities with more opponents. NCYFL is about double the size of NSJFL.
  • Additional guidance and structure around how teams are split, when an organization has multiple teams at a particular level.
  • Play requirements for all players. All players must play at least 6 plays during the game (unless otherwise prevent such as by injury).
  • Cheerleading is an official part of NCYFL, in the past this has included an end-of-season showcase.

Moving from grade-based to age-based teams

NCYFL is organized as:

  • Seniors: 13 & 14 year-olds (generally 8th graders). Most of last year's Bantams will be Seniors this year
  • Juniors: 11 & 12 year-olds (generally 6th & 7th graders). Most of last year's Juniors will be Juniors again this year.
  • Midgets: 9 & 10 year-olds (generally 4th & 5th graders). Most of last year's 89ers will be Midgets this year.
  • PeeWees: 7 & 8 year-olds, younger by exception (generally 2nd & 3rd graders). Most of last year's PeeWees will remain PeeWees this year.
